More than 80 people tasted the wines of La Encomienda in a closed tasting in Valdepeñas

On Friday night, La Encomienda de Valdepeñas winery presented its wines in a closed tasting held at the Wine Museum and organized by the Young Friends of Wine.

A tasting in which 82 people participated, to learn about wines that “tell the story of a people” and were presented by the owners of La Encomienda Gregorio López de Lerma, José López de Lerma and José Luis del Olmo.

Felipe Rojo Gómez, vice president of the Young Friends of Wine association, was in charge of presenting them and said that “the owners of this winery have always been dedicated to viticulture and as in 2011 they decided to go further and began to envision a dream that It has turned into a project of very characteristic, signature wines that “win awards.” Likewise, he recalled that the land where the vineyards are located has four grape varieties: cencibel, merlot, cabernet franc and syrah.

The López de Lerma brothers spoke of the dream they had in 2011 and that today is a reality, the land, the winery and its wines: Orissón, Oretano and Himilce blanco. The tasting included Orissón 2017 made with cencibel and graciano, Oretano 2017 made with cencibel and syrah, Oretano Roble 2017 made with cencibel and syrah, and its 2017 Himilce white, made with viognier grape. All of them, Signature Series Limited wines.

2000 years of history in a bottle of wine, from vineyards that are located in the foothills of the Cerro de las Cabezas Archaeological Site, at an altitude of 805 meters above sea level, in the area of La Encomienda. A wine inherited from its volcanic, granitic and stony soil, located on a steep slope, flanked by Mediterranean forest, in the heart of Vereda Real.

Himilce, an exquisite white that also has history and that takes its name from the Íbero-Oretana princess of the city of Cástulo (Linares-Jaén: where it was also presented), pale yellow with greenish reflections, which shows youth and care elaboration.

They talked about their awards, because despite the youth of La Encomienda, it has already harvested a few and very important ones, such as: The International New Wines Contest, where they got a “strike” on all their brands and gold medals, or the International New Wine Awards 2018, where they were awarded 26 medals: 17 gold and 9 silver.
